Five Tips to a Better Bookcase Display

Over time, an attractive display space can become a spot to stash stuff. With these helpful ideas, you’ll bring those untidy shelves back into focus.

1) Try grouping light and dark items together to make arrangements more appealing.

2) Use horizontal stacks of large books as a base for accessories. This will add height and ground a shelf making it more pleasing to the eye.

3) Create a focal point for each shelf by replacing smaller items with less larger accessories. Notice how the large accessories are staggered left to right throughout, creating an interesting visual rhythm.

4) Use decorative baskets to hide less attrative paperbacks. On each shelf, leave empty spaces where the eye can rest.

5) Confine layered picture frames to one shelf for less clutter.

Designer’s Tip: If there are multiple shelves, stagger display items instead of aligning them from shelf to shelf.
